Venezuelan composer born in Caracas, 1959. She studied
under the tutorship of Alfredo del Mónaco in Caracas. In 1988 she
obtained her Ph. D. in Composition from York University, England having
worked with Vic Hoyland. Izarra has lived in Caracas since 1988 where she
joined the teaching staff of the Simón Bolívar University,
and is at the moment incumbent musical composition professor thereof. She
was member of the executive committee of the International Society for
Contemporary Music (ISCM) between 1999 and 2001.
