The SVMC was created 32 years ago on the 25th of September, 1975, by a group of Venezuelan art music composers in order to establish a representation of its activity in the country and a international link through the membership to the International Society for Contemporary Music ISCM.  Quoting the Statutes:

"The objective of the association is the  study, creation, support and promotion of the contemporary music culture, with no limits of any kind. For the realization of its objectives, the association will promote: sessions, conferences, concerts, publications and other similar activities; equally will estimulate the creation of bibliographic and A/V archives  of the contemporary art music. It will  make all kinds of international cultural interchanges and specially, it will take an active part in international festivals  of contemporary music, and will propose the city of Caracas as host of eventual festivals of the same kind."

" The SVMC will act in a special and exclusive manner in the national territory the representation of the national section of the ISCM."

" The association is strictly a cultural entity and does not function for political and lucrative interests."
